Description: Buckingham Palace From St James Park 1937 Vintage Print from a disbound book about Britain dated 1937, the reverse side has an unrelated picture. Caption beneath the picture - BUCKINGHAM PALACE Taken from the bridge of St. James's Park, this view shows the west front of the Palace, which was designed by Sir Ashton Webb and finished in 1913 as a background to the Queen Victoria Memorial. Buckingham Palace stands on the site of the old Buckingham House, and its transformation into a palace for George IV. was started by John Nash in 1825. In 1831 he was found to have greatly exceeded his estimate of costs, and was dismissed. The same year Edward Blore took over his work, and the Palace was completed in 1837 in time for Queen Victoria to move into it immediately after her accession. St. James's Park was laid out by Charles II. as a" Nature" garden. Suitable for framing, the average picture size is approx 9" x 4.75" or 22.5cm x 12cm, actual page size inc border and text approx 10.75" x 8.5". Border can be very narrow, please view scans. This is a vintage print, printed on magazine style paper, not a modern copy and does show signs of age or previous use commensurate with the age of the print with possible light creases, marks or foxing.
