These sticks come from the very the same batches from the plants as our regular chew sticks but these sections of vines just aren't quite perfect enough to make it into our regular packaging. Perfect for shelters, rescues, to share with friends, or anyone who goes through a lot of sticks. To reduce waste we are offering them for sale in bulk. Some are curved, some are missing sections of bark or be a little more flakey, some have little offshoot growths that we can't quite cut off smoothly. Others may be nearly perfect but may just be a little too large for our regular size and a little too small for our XL size. You likely won't even notice a difference once your cat has them for a day. See photos for samples.What's In the Bag?The paper bag is filled with 25, 50, or 100 Matatbi Sticks depending on quantity chosen. All sticks are dried, unprocessed, and untreated vine segments.Each stick is around 5 inches long and safe for cats to tear bits off during play. Matatabi is a popular catnip alternative in Asia!The plant is native to the mountains Japan and China and grows like an ivy on trees and rocks. It is officially named Actinidia Polygama, but is commonly called Silver Vine for the distinctive color of its leaves.Many cats react to Matatabi (the vine of the Silvervine plant) even if they show little interest to catnip. A 2017 scientific study found 70% of cats had a reaction to catnip, however over 80% of cats had a reaction to silvervine, with many cats enjoying both!While Matatabi/ Silvervine is slowly becoming more well known here in the United States it is more popular in East Asia than traditional catnip! ***NOTE*** Not all cats react to the essential oils of each cat attractant plant in the same way. Which they prefer is based on genetics, their mood, the day, and how they like to play. Just like catnip, most cats LOVE matatabi sticks, but there is a small percentage of cats who don't react to it.
