An Historical Tragedy In Five Acts &The Prophecy Of Dante, A Poem Two volumes bound as one. Published in 1821 & 1823 respectively by John Murray & John Hunt. Includes the the scarcer John Hunt published "The Island". And the 1st edition, 1st variant of Marino Faliero with the Doge speech on 151 in 5 1/2 lines. Soundly bound in period 1/2 polished calf over marbled paper boards; ruling across spine in gilt and blind with black morocco title label. "Faliero" bound with half-title but lacking ad leaf at rear; "Island" lacking half-title and adverts leaf at rear. xxi,[1],261,[1]pp.; [3-7], 8-94 pp. Some several pages of "Island" with evidence of rough opening at the front edge, missing some shallow chips in the front margins of about 5 leaves. Text block slightly trimmed for binding. Queen Adelaide's signature on the right side of the title page of Marino has loss of some of the flourish and the final "e' is a little clipped. Her cut paper bookplate is mounted to the front pastedown. Some light foxing to the front and rear lining sheets. An old manuscript notation to the top edge of the front pastedown, presumably from a books dealer - "First Edition" is signed "L. S. Cockell" [?]. Some mild scuffing to the leather front corners and light rubbing to surfaces of the marbled paper boards. VG Queen Adelaide was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Queen of Hanover from 26 June 1830 to 20 June 1837 as the wife of King William IV.
