Description: c1846 Lovely Victorian 14k Gold Pearl Memorial Hair Brooch/Pin Mourning Presented is a fabulous American Victorian 14 karat gold, pearl and woven hair brooch. This piece dates to circa 1846. The brooch is set with finely plaited brown hair under glass. The glass is surrounded by a ring of natural pearls. The brooch has an old c style clasp. The back of the brooch has a presentation inscription which has been crossed out, reading G. B. C. Jr. Dec. 23rd 1846. Beneath that is another inscription which is not crossed out, reading F. G. P. Dec. 9th 1878. The pin is in great condition. The pearls and the glass are in great shape. There is some slight variation in the color of the pearls, which is to be expected from natural pearls in a piece of this age. There are no breaks and no repairs. This piece is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold. The pin is about 1 1/2 by 1 1/8 inches. The pin weighs 11 grams. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
