This is Braddon's best known novel; she published a follow-up in 1863, 'Aurora Floyd'.Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper, 'With love and all good wishes from Mrs Gerring to L. M. Ingles, May 29th 1917'. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Spine and extremities of the boards are faded. Light marks to the boards and spine. Minor rubbing to the decorative details to the spine and front board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, with a small closed tear to the head of the spine. Front hinge is starting but firm, rear hinge is a little strained but remains firm. Gift inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots, mostly to the endpapers and first and last few pages.
