Description: PRINTS BOOKS PHOTOGRAPHS MANUSCRIPTS CURIOSITIES - A REVEALING LOOK INSIDE AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY GERMAN RESIDENCE -Original photograph album, containing 24 large sepia-toned photographs of a German house, showing its internal décor and layout, by the Elite studio of Berlin, c1920s. Vintage photograph album. Half leather over marbled boards. Containing a total of 24 gelatin silver photographs, sepia-toned, each laid down on the versos of card leaves (rectos blank). Many facing leaves with manuscript inventories of items in a specific room. Photos with the small studio blind stamp 'Elite / Berlin W' in the bottom right or left hand corner, and signed in pencil on the mount beneath in the same way. Most leaves with glassine tissue guards. A number of additional photographs laid loosely inside. Size: album - 36cm x 31.5cm / photographs - approx. 22cm x 16.5cm, or slightly larger or smaller. Very Good condition internally in a Good condition binding. Surface of leather to spine is worn away, and wear also to the corners. A couple of tissue guards no longer present. All leaves appear present and correct, with nothing removed. Please ask if you require a more detailed condition report, or view gallery images closely.A revealing glimpse into the interior decoration and layout of an early 20th century house in Germany, with a few external views, including two of dogs on the porch. The photographs were commissioned from the Elite studio in Berlin, and are nicely presented on the own card leaves. The majority of facing leaves carry manuscript lists of objects and furniture present in each photograph, suggesting the album may have been produced as an insurance record. Nevertheless, whatever its original purpose, it now provides a fabulous peep into German turn of the century interior decoration and design. key words:
