Description: Estate FindCatalina PotteryOxblood VaseCirca 1937 We offer an early production Oxblood vase crafted by Catalina Pottery. In 1937, Gladding, McBean and Co. purchased the Catalina Clay Products Division of Santa Catalina Island Co. The company closed the pottery moving all molds and equipment to the Glendale, California plant. The company continued to use the tradename of Catalina Pottery on select dinnerware and art ware lines produced in the Glendale plant until 1942.The vase is impressed with the early “CATALINA POTTERY” mark and numbers and letters are hand painted in black. Later production was marked with a printed stamp. The black painted letters appear to read “CSA” which may be an artist’s initials or it may have meant to read “USA” which appears on the later stamped marks. Inverted above the letters, “174” is painted. The letters may have another interpretation if read upside down matching the orientation of the numbers. The vase weighs 6.0 ounces and measures 4 7/8” in height and 2 3/4” in width. The upper edge measures 1 1/2” in diameter and the base measures 2” in diameter. There is a tiny grinding fleabite on the bottom edge. Overall, the Catalina Pottery Oxblood vase is in very good vintage condition with no breaks, cracks or repairs.
