Description: Charles I (1625-1649) Royalist York Silver Shilling. Group I, Type I, 1642-1644 Initial mark Lion. EBOR above shield It is a milled coin rather than hammered but the ebay categories don't list early milled until the 1660s. Besly 1B; Brooker 1090; North 2316; Spink 2870. In my opinion only (so please use your own or seek other's judgement) this beautiful and difficult to find coin is almost very fine. To my uneducated, hammered collector eye perhaps some historic tooling in the fields, but other numismatists have suggested this is not the case and advise such a finish is often found on these early milled coins. You'll see this in the many photos for yourself. Regardless, it's an absolutely stunning coin and certainly a superb example of its type. One of the best I've seen of the few that have come up for sale in recent years. 5.49g Provenance: Warwick & Warwick, 12 March 2003, lot 78 Please do ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Free delivery will be next day recorded. Thank you for looking and reading this far :)
