Description: VINTAGE CHILDREN'S PLAY MATE (PLAYMATE) MAGAZINE ACTIVITY PERIODICAL - SEPTEMBER, 1951 - Item Description & Noted Condition ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a VINTAGE, PRE-OWNED ITEM in GREAT CONDITION with NO PACKAGING ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Question: Esther Cooper is the name accredited to being the Editor of Children's Playmate Magazine. Is anyone able to confirm this being the SAME Esther Cooper who was an Editor of Freedomways Magazine ? _______ For 75 years Children's Play Mate Magazine was a Play Time Inducer, Activity Book, and Learning Aid for Children before the time of the internet. From 1935 to 2008 ( when it merged with Jack and Jill Magazine ) Children's Play Mate Magazine invited an earlier generation to think, draw, clip, craft, and read. Wholesome activities included instructions on carving Jack O' Lanterns, dyeing Easter Eggs, making Valentine's Cards, decorating for Halloween & Christmas, and making Paper Dolls ( by directly cutting from pages of the magazine ), in addition to often providing Crosswords, Seek-and-Finds, Topical Stories, & Mail In Photo, Art, and Writing Contests.  Though Children's Play Mate Magazine had a large circulation, a majority of them have been cut-up, written on, or show signs of significant wear from young readers. This issue is from the glory days of the publication and gives indication of the simplistic beauty and unique capabilities of the cover artist, and excellent examples of what the publication offered.  Of Note: Fern Bisel Peat (1893-1971) was an unsung Woman Artist and key element to the production of Children's Playmate Magazine with her husband Frank Peat. From all I have been able to learn, she was the Exclusive Cover Artist for the Magazine during her tenure. Furthermore, her work ( in addition to providing extraordinary colorful covers to Children's Play Mate ), can be found on tin lithographed toys, puzzles and comparable ephemera.
