Description: Welcome to my newest fascination! Chopmarked coins literally sailed around the world (they didn’t fly and they weren’t electronically wired) to pay for trade goods between the West and Asia. The US, Britain, France, Netherlands, Spain (Spain was the original!) Japan, China, and a few other nations, each had their own version. These silver coins were chop marked and drilled to test for purity and as a sign that they were tested and guaranteed of their purity. You can trace the origin and destinations of these coins from the various chop marks on each one. Each coin was handled by a different person on their own continent imbuing these coins with a great sense of history! I hope my obsession will become yours! M13 -1880 Japanese Yen in approximately AU 52 (my grade!) this coin is so cool. The chop marks on this coin are all on the reverse, which causes a subsequent rounding on the obverse. This makes the dragon look like it is leaping off of the coin. At least four chop marks on the reverse. NGC CERTIFIED.
