Description: I picked this unit up last year for pretty cheap compared to the MSRP ($3,000+). I thought I was getting a great deal on a really compact and neatly machined Wireless Follow Focus system but I've had some issues. The motor housing includes the receiver parts so its only one power cord going to the motor from a P/DTap port. It's a large motor but the combination of the Motor and Receiver is a great idea. The Remote is also very compact and uses button combinations to change settings and the combinations / instructions are very clearly written on the back of the remote. There are hard marks on the Hand Unit to physically mark your focus ranges on the knob. The A/B/C/D buttons on the Hand Unit allow you to pre-set up to 4 marks and speed can be adjusted with speed knob. I've included a video in the photos section showing the unit is functioning, how the A/B/C/D buttons work, and how the knob is not permanently mounted. Please feel free to reach out for any additional information or clips if you want to see functionality or knob issues. The motor *might* be the high powered version but I'm not sure. Once I was on set I had LOTS of connectivity problems. When I'm pulling focus I usually twist the knob occasionally to confirm I have control between takes. While the system held connection most of the time it would drop out at the worst possible occasions (right after we start rolling). I cannot confirm what was causing these issues but when my line of sight to the camera was blocked, even by someone walking between us, I would usually lose connection. Many times I looked like an idiot frantically getting connection back while camera rolled. Knob - The knob was very loose when I bought the unit (used) but I got used to it. While trying to improve the drag on the knob I ruined the potentiometer inside the controller so I had to install a new potentiometer. The knob is now VERY loose and I have yet to glue the knob back into the potentiometer because I was going to work out a fix but gave up and went back to using Bartech. If you want, I can epoxy the knob into the potentiometer before shipping. The knob must be placed in the right position so the two potentiometers can keep together, but this problem could be fixed if you epoxy or fix the knob into the remote like it should be. Overheating - In an outdoor shoot in the summer last year I had the motor stop responding a single time. I don't think this is a constant issue but just being fully transparent. It only happened once. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OVERALL - I really wanted to keep this as a backup but its unused and could still serve a purpose even if its only for parts. I installed a new battery into the remote last year so it holds charge for a very long time. Plus, you can keep your remote powered at your monitor and pull it out to walk around. Besides the loose knob and connectivity issues, I really like the way this thing was built. I reached out to Cinegears several times but they would ghost me as soon as I described my issues. I even offered money for a tune-up or repair and they would ignore me. I believe Cinegears knows they made an inferior product, sold it for $3K and now offer 0 help in repairs or troubleshooting. If you reattach the knob and add some rubber or felt to the knob to make it turn slower this system will work fine EXCEPT for relying on the wireless connection at the professional level. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know this is a huge rant but just contact me if you have any more questions. The motor, besides connectivity, works great. The hand unit, besides the knob, works great. I loved this thing when I bought it but now I'm just trying to recoup some of the money I spent and get the working parts to someone who can use them.
