Description: Civil War Subsistence Dept. Manual – Signed By Soldier / Correspondent Regulations For The Subsistence Department In The Army Of The United States, Washington, GPO, 1861. Paper wraps same as title page, 38 pages with fold out plates. This copy belonged to “David Francis Ritchie, Utica, N.Y.” Ritchie was entered the service into Company “A” 14th New York Infantry, and later was commissioned into the New York 1st Light Artillery with promotions to 2nd, 1st Lieutenant and Captain in the Quartermasters department within that regiment.Ritchie also acted as a correspondent for the Utica Morning Herald, writing descriptions and analyses of the war. His accounts included engagements at the Peninsular Campaign, Seven Pines, Spottsylvania CH, North Anna, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and more. Some roughness and small tears on the thin spine area; with dog ears on the corners. Overall a nice copy and association to a Union soldier / correspondent.
