Description: COASMO (1901..1925)Built by Alexander Stephen & Sons Ltd., Glasgow Scotland for the Allan Line and named STATE OF CALIFORNIA. She was a 4,244 GT ship with dimensions of 386'x46'. Single-screw, 13 knots, triple expansion engines, three masts and one funnel. Later named CALIFORNIAN. First voyage as CALIFORNIA, Liverpool-Portland. The CALIFORNIAN stranded near Portland, February 25, 1900, later salvaged, sold and reconstructed as COAMO sailing under the U.S. flag via the New York & Porto Rico Line with accommodations for 100 first and 40 second class passengers Masts reduced to two.
