Description: An interesting mid century abstracted figural lithograph from French Modernist Pierre Eugene Clairin (1897-1980). It is a lovely allegorical small scale work titled "Les Quatres Saisons". The image is 4 1/4 x 5 inches and the sheet measures 5 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches and is printed on cream colored wove paper. It is hand signed and numbered 39/56 in pencil by the artist. Shows no indication of ever having been framed and it is in excellent condition. Pierre Eugene Clairin (1897-1980) was a French painter, printmaker, illustrator and writer, his work is identified with the School of Paris. He studied painting in the studio of Fernand Cormon, and continued his studies in 1919 with Paul Serusier at the Academie Ranson. Clairin exhibited in Pont Aven and New York where he was a great success. He spent time in Morocco and Algeria. Clairin was an aviator in the First World War and active in the French Resistance during WWII. In the 1950s, the works of Albert Camus and Henry de Montherlant were illustrated by Clairin.
