These older courses focus on immersian in the language WITHOUT english translation, You are given a dialog in a picture then you figure out the meaning. If you can not figure it out you will refer to a vocabulary book with the course. Its a proven method and will stop the learner from trying to cross translate all the time. Germanic and Latin based languages simply don't translate word for word.
