Description: This book deals with two basic areas of linear network design: approximation and synthesis, with the main emphasis on approximation. The first three chapters contain a review of the Laplce transform, analysis of networks, and behavior of networks with ideal characteristics. Any mathematical function that is to be the basis for subsequent network synthesis must contain all restrictive conditions imposed on it by the network to be realized. In chapter 4 these conditions are presented and the ground is prepared for approximation. Different network characteristics, particularly for linear networks, are defined in chapter 5, and programs for evaluating them are given. Chapter 6 introduces several transformations that make it possible to transform network characteristics into another frequency band and thus prepare them for subsequent approximation. Chapter 7 discusses the most important approximation procedures. Approximations of different characteristics is treated in chapters 8 through 12; programs for solving pertinent problems are included. The last two chapters, 13 and 14, discuss synthesis techniques and the synthesis of passive as well as active filters.
