Description: Splendid French Art Deco Oiseau de Paradis / Bird of Paradise opalescent glass charger by Pierre D’Avesn c1930. (Pierre D’Avesne trained at Lalique, designing famous pieces such as ‘Serpent” & ‘Tourbillons’, later working at St-Remy, Daum & Verlys then Choisy-le-Roi & Sevres into his old age.) Mould blown glass, thick & heavy, with a smooth, glossy front & sculptural, richly textured underside. The design depicts a bird, wings outstretched, backgrounded by stylised flowers & scrolled foliage. Stamped ‘D’AVESN’ on the underside (along with 3 undecipherable digits). Very good condition - the smooth upper side has some minor surface scratches which are not visible unless the light is canted at a certain angle.
