Description: WASHINGTON DC The Bullion Bank $2 July 4, 1862 DC-170 G22a This Bullion Bank $2 was payable in United States Treasury Notes and has a contemporary annotation crossed out on the back. The bank traces its origins to around 1861. By the Spring of 1862, the bank was behind on rent for its office and arrest warrants had been issued for the bank's president for refusing to redeem the bank's circulation at par. By the end of July attempts to "revive the firm" were reported and new leadership for the bank was announced by October. Apparently it did not end well, as the bank failed on December 23, 1862. click here: Pat's coins - currency - & more! | eBay Stores
