Mr. Toole lived in the Virginia area during the civil war period and made his living painting portraits. The coloring of this painting is rich and the detail is quite amazing. The frame measures 2 1/4 inches wide by 3 inches tall. The portrait is sitting onto the back of the frame by a small bit of wax. It was never permanently attached. The frame is wood with gold gilt.
