Welcome to the Lansing Family Farm - Historical Summary Donnie Lansing is the 4th generation of the Lansing family to own this farm. It was founded in 1906 by his great grandfather William and then Donnie purchased from his own father Laverne in 1980. Donnie was born and raised on this farm along with his three sisters and made his life here working the farm while also being employed at John Deere. In late 1987, Hollywood chose Donnie's farm as the site for the movie Field of Dreams. Filming took place in the spring and summer of 1988 and the complete movie premiered locally in April of 1989. It was then that Donnie realized the importance of preserving his farm and the newly constructed ballfield and set about doing everything he could to build a sustainable foundation for generations to come. With the help of his sister Betty and later his wife, Becky, the three of them along with dedicated employees did what they felt reflected their Iowa values. Hard work, shed tears, sheer willpower, and untimely setbacks were all a part of building something that their family before them would be proud of and ultimately would position the farm for greater things to come. In 2012, Donnie and his wife Becky sold the farm to an investment group lead by Mike and Denise Stillman. The farm sold again in October of 2021 to investor Rick Heidner and Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas. As the chapters continue to unfold for Donnie's farm, he continues to have a tremendous sense of pride in the role that he played from the very beginning. There are many people responsible for the making of this remarkable film, but none more responsible for the protection and nurturing of his family farm and legacy than Donnie himself, who remained dedicated long after filming was completed. Welcoming hundreds of thousands of tourists from across the world, expecting nothing in return but a friendly smile.
