Description: Dunkirk GN From the Pages of "Combat" Walt Simonson Virgin Cover Variant (2018) Four complete stories carry us through this hallowed battle, as the Nazis pushed the entire British army right onto the shores of France, before the United States entered the war. Only by mobilizing civilian volunteers and anything that floated to carry wounded and trapped soldiers across the English Channel did the British stave off a disaster that might have changed the course of World War II. Navy veteran and award-winning Golden/Silver Age comic book artist Sam Glanzman (1924-2017) brought the battles of World War II into the hands of readers. He served in the U.S. Navy all during World War II, so was well fitted to create his signature powerful renderings that depicted a realistic glimpse into the challenges and energy of combat. Glanzman continued his career after the war and is well known for his outstanding collections of work, including "U.S.S. Stevens," which is all about the ship he actually served on in the Pacific theatre, as well as "A Sailor’s Story," "Attu," "Red Range," and most recently, an archive collection of his Charlton Comics Hercules stories. Following Christopher Nolan’s 2017 film Dunkirk, publisher It's Alive assembled a collection of Glanzman’s work from the 1960's Dell comic series "Combat." Each Combat issue featured true stories from World War II, illustrated by the legendary Eisner Award-nominee Glanzman. This Dunkirk graphic novel features three main stories: "Dunkirk," "Channel Battle," and "Last to Leave." Plus, the back-up story "One by Sea" and 1-page stories "A Most Deadly Air Raid" and "The First Aircraft Carrier." Includes three bonus essays: an artist biography, Dean Webb on Glanzman’s service career, and a look at Lord Gort, who was the man who led England’s greatest retreat and evacuation. Comics come newly bagged and boarded and are shipped in industry standard protective mailers. Please inquire if you are looking for a particular comic book or run of books. Some books may be pulled from online availability and/or set aside to send to CGC.
