Early 19th C. LE CAFE DES COMEDIENS Old Book Illustration by Alexandre Desenne

Description: Here we have a nice little plate from an early fine French book by Alexandre-Joseph Desenne. "Alexander-Joseph Desenne was born in 1785. Self-taught, Alexander Desenne is best known for his cartoons. He illustrated most French classics, Molière, Voltaire, Rousseau, Bernardin de Saint Pierre, Lamartine, Fenimoore Cooper and Chateaubriand. Protected by people such as Marie Antoinette and the Comte d'Artois, he brought together some of the ideas of the Revolution before going into exile in the fall of Robespierre. He returned to France in 1802. Desenne passed away in 1827". The work is titled "LE CAFE DES COMEDIENS" and dated 1813. It is in excellent condition and nicely crafted frame has been professionally done. The frame measures 7" by 9 1/4" and the mat is 3 1/4" by 5 1/4". This piece has not been removed from the frame for inspection. Shipping weight, well packed, is 1 lb. Insurance has been added to the shipping cost as per Ebay's mandate.
