Description: Early Frank Patania, Sr. Sterling Silver Pill Box. Stamped on underside with the Thunderbird hallmark (Thunderbird Shop) and the word STERLING in capital letters. Frank Patania Jr. writes in his online history of Patania and Thunderbird Shop hallmarks that "The 'thunderbird' was chosen to represent his [Frank Sr.] Thunderbird Shop and a die was made. Our consensus is that this hallmark was first used in the late 1930's in conjunction with a 'sterling' die." In the early 1940's, Frank Patania, Sr. added a cojoined block "FP" when signing his work. (For further information on Patania hallmarks, see www.spatania.com). This box dates to the late-1930's or early 1940's, making it an early piece of Patania's work. An early, lovely little box made by this important Southwestern silversmith. Excellent condition, no flaws or defects. Length: 1.5" Width: 1.25" Height: 0.25"
