Description: An early Stanley pre-lateral Transitional Plane. I believe this is the No 28, at 18" long with a 2 3/8" wide cutter. The toe bears the early Stanley logo with Eagle motif, the frog is clearly a pre-lateral one and the depth wheel is solid (not recessed) with the Bailey name and patent dates stamped on it. I'd guess at this being a type 3, from the 1870s. The plane itself is in very good condition with the main flaw being the repaired horn on the rear handle. The body is solid and in good shape. I lightly planed the sole to flatten it and tidy it up (feather shavings only) and have oiled and waxed the body. I disassembled the parts and hand cleaned them. The screws that hold the metal frame and frog to the body still hold and the threads are good. The cutter has most of its life left and appears original (Bailey logo is visible at the top of the cutter but didn't come out so well in the photos). I'm happy to combine postsge costs where I can. Thank you for looking.
