Enicar Sherpa 600 Guide GMT World Time Gents ‘1965’ Vintage Watch 43mm Serviced

Description: If you’re a fan of vintage aviator watches you must have a Enicar nestled snugly in your watch box. The Enicar Sherpa Guide GMT 600 World Time is a beautifully designed professional grade watch in a contemporary 43mm size at an accessible undervalued price point. A tough, rugged, damn nice watch... This collectors piece has been recently over hauled by a master horologist at a cost of £270.00 (TRADE) and is now in superb running order keeping accurate time and date with all functions working correctly, an invoice for the works will accompany the watch. Ready to treasure and enjoy for many years to come! Circa 1965 Sherpa Guide 600 GMT World - Time. The 24-hour inner rotating bezel has retained its red colour. The external bezel shows some signs of wear, but remains legible; the same applies to the engravings on the caseback. The 43mm super compressor case exhibits some expected scratches on the case bands, but it does not show prior excessive polishing, if any. The two crowns bear the cool Enicar logo, as they should. The Enicar Sherpa Guide represents a quintessential tool watch, with its large compressor case and unusual world-timer display. The great original condition of this example allows one to fully benefit from the factory color contrasts. The Enicar Sherpa Guide is much more than a GMT watch; calling it a world-timer would be more accurate. It does have a GMT hand and a 24-hour inner rotating bezel but both are complemented by an external rotating bezel that allows its wearer to select the city of reference. As such, all timezones can be tracked at a glance. This watch impresses with its purposeful use of colour to display such a wealth of information; this example utilizes the familiar blue/red contrast of course, but also turns to black for the bezel and the dial. Furthermore, the screw-back waterproof case offers reassurance for future travels, rain or shine. The Original Dial: The dial symmetry and scarcity of the roulette date version has led to increased demand. Large, highly visible lume plackets lay out the time with Enicar signature concave batons. A clean and functional dial is achieved with the use of steel lume filled baton hands with large lume plackets. The bezel with bakelite insert can be depressed to rotate bi-directionally. Signed Enicar Automatic Sherpa T - Swiss. Black dial with lovely patina, wide baton hands with aged lume filled inserts, matching lollipop sweep seconds hand. The aged lume filled concave baton hour markers match the tone of the dial giving it vintage charm. The Dial has marks and soiling commensurate with age and everyday wear - Please observe photographs. The Original Case/Bezel: Steel polished and brushed satin finished case measuring 43mm width x 13mm depth x 52mm height with out crown including lugs, case is in solid condition for the age - Has surface scratches associated with Steel commensurate with everyday wear and age. Lugs are in solid condition. Correct rotating World Time original factory bezel however the red pointer is missing, in good functional order. Please observe photographs carefully. The Original Case Back Cover Outer: Screw back case with a plain polished finish featuring engraving to the centre signed with logo to centre ‘ENICAR SHERPA 600’ (serial numbered) 849*** (dating to 1965) Stainless Steel Swiss Incabloc Automatic Brevet 314962. Look at prices for old Submariners and Explorers and Speedmaster and tell me otherwise. But then again, these are the icons, and as most watch enthusiasts know the watch world was much bigger than what just Rolex and Omega were doing. If you were to look at Enicar's offerings, for example, you'd find another illustrious history of adventuringin timekeeping. However, unless you're deep in the watch nerd world, you probably never heard of the brand at all. Enicar's roots go back to the early 1900s, but as a brand, it wouldn't hit its stride until the post-WWI years, when it started manufacturing its own movements — which it boasted as being "ultrasonically cleaned" - and venturing into tool watches. Arguably one of the most significant introductions during this time was the Seapearl 600 in the early 1950s, a time when the dive watch was entering the fray. The Seapearl, notably, didn't feature a rotating timing bezel like the Submariner or Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms of the same era, but it was water-resistant to 600 feet and featured a dial smothered in lume. More important to watch lore, though, was the use of Enicar Seapearl watches on a Swiss expedition to scale both Mounts Everest and Lhotse in the Himalayas in 1956, just a couple years after Sir Edmond Hillary's pioneering ascent. Enicar quickly capitalized on the success, touting the Seapearl's success on Everest, adding the "Sherpa" moniker — a reference to Himalayan mountaineering guides — creating and subsequently an entire line of Sherpa tool watches. It's these watches that have become the most sought-after in the brand's history. This spawned many desirable watches today, like the Sherpa Dive - which did feature a diving bezel — or the Sherpa Graph chronograph. But of these watches, arguably the most collectible today is the Sherpa Guide. Contrary to what the name might suggest, the watch was not intended for mountaineers, but rather aviators, and was introduced in the early 1960s, just Rolex's GMT watch was popularizing the travel complication amongst pilots and the jet set. As for the Sherpa Guide, it's become an increasingly valuable watch to those in the know. Prices still remain somewhat accessible, but values for good examples are continuously going up.
