Description: Epiphyllum 'Ernst Gundschen' A Curt Knebel hybrid introduced circa 1935 with brilliant orange flowers with wide carmine edges on the inner petals. The large plants have mostly three-angled, spiny growth, and are quite floriferous. Supposedly, the brilliantly-colored flowers are extra large, yet I have only seen small sized blooms. Also, if one searches and looks at pictures of this hybrid on the internet (if you can find them), the flowers look as if they are also on the smaller side of medium. Probably a mistake in registration? Ernst Gundschen is a seedling of Disocactus speciosus ssp. cinnabarinus crossed with an unknown epiphyllum. This offering is for one well-rooted and established cutting, with new growth showing or beginning to show, in a 3 1/4" pot - similar to what may be seen in the photos. These are not full plants but, rather, smaller, well-rooted cuttings that are just beginning to show signs of new growth, or new growth is already developing. If you don't want to have to wait for a cutting to root, this will save you a few steps and time. The young plant you will receive is healthy and true to name (and may show a few nicks and dings). Cultivation Instructions Included with Purchase! I've been growing and collecting Epiphyllums for over 45 years and enjoy over 700 varieties in my collection. It would be hard to choose a favorite, but it would probably have to be the one that's right in front of me! All photos are of plants in my own collection - unless stated otherwise.
