Description: Name: Ceraurus pleurexanthemus and Others Age: Upper OrdovicianFormation: Trenton GroupLocation: Quebec City, QuebecSize: Plate is 4.2 inches tall This is a beautiful fossil. This is a "true" Ceraurus pleurexanthemus from the Ordovician of Quebec. This striking bug is very inflated and 3-D and exhibits outstanding detail. Even the small free cheeks are present, which is highly unusual. The granulose texture of the cephalon is quite evident, and the distinct genal and tail spines are dramatically displayed. The pleurons terminate in sharp points, which is easily seen on this specimen. The dark, thick-shelled exoskeleton of the bug contrasts beautifully with the powder-grey matrix. The ancient arthropod is wonderfully showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale that also contains a partial cystoid and a brachiopod. This is a very nice display example of Ceraurus pleurexanthemus from Canada. A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this item.
