This homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms watch attempts to capture the essence and quality of the original (a watch that is no longer in production). We wanted to make sure that this watch was made the correct way with a single time setting position (no ghost position) and lower beat rate like the original. We also included a beautiful domed sapphire crystal which magnifies the stunning matte black dial. The dial uses C3 lume and glows extremely bright under normal wear. A combat tropical strap with quick release will safely secure it to your wrist being ready for any of your waterborne adventures!Originally launched in 1953 by Blancpain with the collaboration with the elite French combat divers, the “Nageurs de Combat”, the military unit needed a reliable, durable, legible, and water-resistant wristwatch. Coincidentally, the CEO of Blancpain Jean-Jacques Fiechter had a tremendous passion for diving and quickly accepted the challenge. These early Fifty Fathoms watches featured radium luminescence, allowing for a constant glow in dark environments to help with legibility. Later versions of this amazing dive watch were updated with non-radiation dials - which was designated by a no radiations logo above the 6 o'clock position. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung nicknamed “Ingress,” reigns from the early 1960s and is perhaps one of the most collectible and desirable vintage dive watches. This is in part to the large “Ingress Indicator” symbol found at the bottom half of the dial. During dives, even the best watches could be compromised with water, leading to a Diver's watch being mechanically unsound. An indicator was added to allow Diver's easy recognition of a compromised watch and safely surface from their dive.
