Description: This is a beautiful vintage Mottahedeh figurine of a Whippet or a Greyhound lying on what appears to be a marble slab.Features: The base of this piece is bisque porcelain, painted with a marble-like finish. The dog is made of black basalt, a dense rock-like ceramic material that gives the appearance of stone.Provenance: This Neo-Classical style piece was purchased at an estate sale. Taped to its base was the original Mottahedeh tag, which, not only is an interesting read and is included in this purchase, but also has a copyright date of 1967.Size: Approximately 5 ¾” side-to-side; 2 ½” back-to-front. It is approximately 3 ¾” high.Condition: Overall, this piece is in very good vintage condition, with one flaw. The dog’s collar is missing. (Obviously someone along the way thought this pup looked uncomfortable in that big collar!) Otherwise, the figurine is in very good condition, no cracks, chips, or repairs.Italian made, this vintage Mottahedeh piece exhibits fineness of grain and sharpness of molding not to be found elsewhere… please take a look at all the pictures. The figurine is marked on the base “Mottahedeh design, Italy.” Even without her/his collar (which most people will not miss!), this is a fabulous and tasteful paperweight or display piece!
