Description: Francis Russell Flint (England 1915-1977) RA RWS RSMA Terrace Garden Watercolor Francis Russell Flint (England, 1915-1977) RS, RWS, RSMA Sewing on the Terraza, c. 1972 Watercolor on paper (sight) 14” high x 21” wide (framed) 22 ½” high x 29” wide Notes: Francis Russell Flint was born to an artistic family, son of the celebrated Scottish artist Sir William Russell Flint (1880-1969), and, in addition to being an established marine artist in his own right, he shared an interest in Spanish scenes with his father. However, unlike his father, Francis’ approach tends to be more relaxed and natural rather than eroticized, a quirk called out by Sir William Russell Flints critics as diminishing to his talents. This watercolor follows very much in the Spanish tradition, depicting a woman casually sewing on the terrazzo edge, it covered in lush foliage and overlooking the city, with a bridge / aqueduct extending to the right, and mountains and clear blue skies beyond. Notable is Flint’s use of light, colour and composition, as well as his mastery of the medium. Markings: signed lower left; inscribed, signed, and dated verso Condition: Excellent Condition – Ready for Display. For Accuracy: the frame has a couple of scuffs to the extremities as is expected on a vintage artwork. Artist Biography: FLINT, Francis Murray Russell Flint (England, 1915-1977) Painter.
