Description: Franklin Library leather edition of Bruce Catton's "A Stillness at Appomattox," one of the SIGNED 60 series, Personally Signed by BRUCE CATTON, signature protected by onion-skin tissue paper, Illustrated by Bob Dacey, a Limited edition, published in 1977. Bound in pea green leather, the book has green French moire silk end leaves, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, satin book marker, hubbed spine, and gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition. Bruce Catton, who lived from 1899---1978, grew up in Michigan among Civil War veterans who enthralled him with stories of their adventures. Catton's extensive work describes the Battle of the Wilderness, the assault of the Mule Shoe at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House where General R.E. LEE surrenders his command; the Battle of Cold Harbor, the Battle of the Crater, and the Battle of Appomattox Courthouse. Catton describes vividly the campaigns of ULYSSES S. GRANT in Virginia during 1864. Other Civil War generals he describes include GEORGE GORDON MEADE, PHILIP SHERIDAN, and ROBERT E. LEE. Catton used various collections of unpublished letters written by Federal soldiers, personal diaries of spouses and relatives, memoirs of soldiers and their families and official war records. There are even letters from Major General U.S. Grant III on recalled anecdotes and soldiers and ranking personnel about his famous grandfather, Ulysses S. Grant. 553 pages, including a bibliography, Notes, and an Index. I offer Combined shipping.
