Description: Vintage Franklin Mint Heirloom Doll DOLLEY MADISON First Ladies Series 1984, DOLLEY PAYNE TODD MADISON Was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, May 20, 1768,Her father was John Payne,1736-1792, believed to have initially been a planter in Virginia; He emancipated his slaves (according to then-prevailing Quaker belief) and moved to Philadelphia in 1783, where he opened a small laundry starch-making businessHer mother was Mary Coles Payne,1745-1807, who married John Payne in 1761 in Hanover County, Virginia; She was a Quaker, he an Episcopalian. In 1764, he applied for membership in her meeting house and was accepted. In 1766, they moved to North Carolina but returned to Virginia in 1769. Then In 1783, they settled in Philadelphia. After her husband's death, Mary Payne briefly opened their home to boarders, including Congressman Aaron Burr of New York. Several years later, Burr introduced her to Congressman James Madison of Virginia. She was 5' 6 1/2" tall, had black hair & blue eyes.
