Description: Classic French Empire Chest made from rosewood veneer and featuring ebonized front columns, c. 1810. Iconic of the Empire style, two ebony black round columns flank the bank of dovetailed drawers. The whole stands on sturdy round turned feet and is covered with richly colored and beautiful rosewood veneer. The frieze houses a secret hidden drawer without hardware; it opens easily with grooves hidden on the underside of the drawer. Three lower drawers each feature a pair of highly decorative cast brass pulls with simple brass inset keyholes. Good vintage condition with some chips to the veneer and a few previous repairs, some wear and imperfections to the top and a separation/crack to the sides which does not affect structure or use.
