Description: GDA Ch Field Haviland Limoges Cream Soup Bouillon Pink Rose Garland Gold 1937-41 Elegant Decorative 2 Handled EMBOSSED BOUILLON CREAM SOUP w/SAUCER from GDA (Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot), Charles Field Haviland Limoges, France, PINK ROSE GARLAND w/Green Leaves, STIPPLED GOLD Trim on SMOOTH Rim on Cup & SCALLOPED RIM on Saucer, Circa 1937-1941 DESCRIPTION: This beautiful 2 handled embossed cream soup & saucer set has the elegant pink rose garlands w/stippled gold band on the rims. The roses sprinkled across the cup & saucer have grey ghost flowers to give depth to the pattern. This is such an elegant, impressive set. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. The only issue is a very old, tight 1/2" hairline on the back of the saucer at the rim. We cannot see or feel this on the front. See photo #19. There appears to be no gold wear as it was applied in a stippled manner. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, other hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. DIMENSIONS: The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/2" and a height of 5/8". The cup has a diameter of 3 5/8" while it it 5 1/8" handle to handle. The height is 1 15/16" with a capacity of 5 ounces. HISTORY/MARKS: Charles Field Haviland is the nephew of David Haviland, who started his company in 1853 in Limoges, France to manufacture china for the American market. Charles Field in 1858 married Loiuse Alluaud, the granddaughter of the Alluaud porcelain family. In 1876 management of the firm was entrusted to Charles Field Haviland and the name was changed prior to his retirement in 1881. When he retired, the name was bought and has passed down through several firms until the present day. In Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition, the GDA mark (#1) on this set is described as a green underglaze mark (Haviland manufacturer's mark) that was used from 1900-1941. GDA stands for Gerard, Dufraisseix, & Abbot. There is also the red overglaze decorator’s mark #4 used 1937-1976. This limits production to 1937-1941.
