Description: The Life of George Washington Studied AnewBy Edward Everett Hale Printed by G.P. Putnam’s SonsThe Knickerbocker Press1888 Copyright 1887 Volume II in the Boys’ and Girls’ Library of American Biography Extract from Author’s Preface: “I have been satisfied for some years that the time had come for a new view of the life and character of George Washington, a view to be taken after a careful study of his own memoranda prepared for the history of his own life. As the readers of this book will learn, Washington left, arranged in careful order, perhaps more materials for his biography than any man of his century; but a certain habit of defying him has thus far prevented writers of his life from approaching the study of the man in the way in which writers would address themselves to most biographical subjects. It has been my aim, using in my narrative chiefly the diaries and letters of the man himself, to present to the new generation of Americans the human Washington in such a way that they may have some conception of the man and of the advantages and disadvantages with which he worked through his great career.” Dimensions: 8" x 5 3/4” x 1 1/4” For those of you visiting this item who are not also eBay sellers, I want to share with you a little information about the fees eBay collects from us sellers. eBay charges a "Final Value Fee" of 14.95% on not just the price of the book, but also on shipping and taxes. This means eBay charges sellers 14.95% of what buyers pay in shipping and taxes, money that sellers never see or touch. So, in reality, the actual eBay tax rate is over 17.4% of the final sale price of the item. And fees paid to eBay by sellers are 16.6% higher than if eBay just taxed sellers for the final sale price of the item. EXAMPLE: I sell a book for $45, and the buyer also pays $3.92 in shipping (Media Mail) and $3.49 in sales tax. eBay charges me a 14.95% fee of $52.41, the combined total of the item itself, taxes & shipping. Meaning that net of fees I receive $37.16 from the sale of that $45 book, meaning 17.5% of the price of the book goes to eBay in the form of fees. $45 @ 14.95% = $6.72 in fees if fees were based only on the sale price of the book $45 + $3.92 + $3.49 = $52.41 total of the sale price of the book, plus shipping and taxes $52.41 @ 14.95% = $7.84 total fees paid by seller to eBay $7.84/$45 = 17.4% actual eBay fee as a percentage of the book's sale price $7.84 - $6.72 = $1.12 in additional fees paid on shipping and taxes $1.12/$6.72 = 16.6% higher fees on the combined sale price of the book, shipping and taxes than if the fee was only paid on the sale price of the book. $45 - $7.84 = $37.16 is the net profit received by a seller after eBay fees (84% of the sale price)
