Description: You are bidding on a VERY NICE used example of an East German NVA Carl Zeiss EDF 7x40 Roof Prism Military Binoculars! The EDF 7x40 was introduced in 1981, specifically designed for the East German NVA of the DDR/ Deutsche Demokratische Republik. It was the result of 10 years of development, dating back to the early 1970s. EDF is an abbreviation of Einheitsdoppelfernror which means ‘double telescope unit’ or ‘binocular unit’. It replaced the Porro prism DF 7x40 binocular. The EDF is immediately recognizable by the placement and asymmetric design of its hinges. As a product of the cold war era, the EDF includes provision for the most pessimistic of uses - remaining serviceable in a battlefield with high levels of background radiation. It is also known for its extreme durability. Made by Carl Zeiss Jena, these 7 x 40 power binoculars are is in EXCELLENT used condition! The lens body retains about 95% of their original green paint and finish, and the focus adjustments still function perfectly! The optics are still AMAZINGLY clear and are coated to prevent glare. Fully waterproof, they feature the addition of a removable rubber covering. As you can see in the photos, one lens cover is missing, but these can be obtained by themselves quite easily. The strap is original to these binoculars. Though these normally had Tritium installed to aid in IR and night vision, almost of all these had this feature removed before being exported to the west. Though marked as such, these no loner retain this feature (I have actually never seen one that still retains this feature, as the Tritium had a half life of only 12 years anyway). These vary in price, so I have listed these in the mid-range. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
