(c)1995 Masamune Shirow/Kodansha, Bandai Visual, MANGA ENTERTAINMENT Readers' impressions Honestly, this is an incredible collection of original artwork. It's packed with original artwork of such high quality that it's hard to believe it's an anime from 20 years ago. I'm an aspiring artist, so I bought this as a reference for my drawings, and I think it was a very good purchase. I'm glad there were original art for not only the characters but also the backgrounds. I'm glad I was able to see the original art for the legendary scenes. I recommend this to anyone who works in the art world. It's the pinnacle of expression that was only possible in that era. The heavy layout is drawn precisely and boldly without any sense of incongruity, and it's interesting to see the young talent of the star animators who support today's anime movies. It was quite a large volume and more interesting than I expected. I was happy to see the original drawings by Iso, Okiura, Inoue, and others, but I would have preferred if they had included them in color instead of black and white, even if it cost twice as much. (Like Evangelion Q.) I would like them to release original drawing collections for Ghost in the Shell: Directing Notes, Patlabor 2, and Innocence following this...preferably in color! Even if you're not involved in the anime industry, you can still enjoy it just by looking at it, and it can serve as a reference for how to draw illustrations. However, I wish it was printed in two colors to separate the color tracing parts.
