To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of America's greatest toy soldier, GI Joe, Hasbro began releasing large box sets that included a boxed 12 inch action figure from one of the four Armed Services (Action Soldier, Action Marine, Action Pilot and Action Sailor) and related uniform and accessory sets. The 40th packaging was almost identical to the original items. Original plans called for 30 different sets to be released, however, the line was cancelled before completion and not all the sets were manufactured and / or released. This set was never released to the general public at retail, but sold only through the official GI Joe Collectors Club. You are bidding on the exclusively issued 40th Anniversary Timeless Action Soldier Combat Accessory Set, #23 in the series. This limited edition figure was released by the GI Joe Collectors Club. It with a dark haired painted head 12" action figure (based on the GI Joe Timeless fully articulated) and is dressed in an olive drab set of battle fatigues. It comes in a reproduction coffin box (marked 40th Anniversary) It includes a olive drab plastic fatigue cap, metal dog tag, Army Field Manual and insignia sheet. In addition, this GI Joe Club release is packaged with a fabric fatigue hat in addition to the standard plastic version. The cloth hat acknowledges one of the holy grail for Joe collectors, a cloth version of the plastic cap. I was never convinced that Hasbro ever issued the cloth hat. Maybe it was a prototype, or maybe it was a custom made item. Either way, here is your chance to own one of these elusive cloth caps. This auction is for one 40th Anniversary set. The set is pristine. The set includes four individually-wrapped accessory cards, as follows: A. Combat helmet with netting and camouflage, B. Combat field pack with entrenching tool, C. Combat M-1 rifle with cartridge belt and bayonet, and D. Combat olive drab field jacket. All packaging is fresh and in perfect condition. This GI Joe play set allows kids (of all ages) to re-live the feeling that boys felt when they got their first GI Joe and were able to dress him with different equipment. I received my first Joe in 1965 when I was 11 years old, and I can tell you that there was no greater feeling of joy, than when I played with GI Joe and dressed him in different uniforms. This set includes reissues of some of the original accessory cards, which were the first ones that a kid (as I did), would go out and purchase these accessories to dress up his new GI Joe. I am not alone, as there are millions of boys who love GI Joe and his many incarnations to this day. There is no better gift for a pre-teen, video games be darned!
