Description: Gobelin Tapestry D.A.C Artz Dutch Master 67"x19" Sewing Class Circle Flemish This is an antique Gobelin tapestry of a Dutch Master's painting by David Adolf Constant Artz (1837-1890). The tapestry measures 67" x 19" and is mounted on a wood stretcher frame as I received it. The tapestry is mounted all around on the frame with tack nails. There is a cardboard backing tacked on the back of the frame. I have pulled the cardboard back looking for a label. No label, but the wood frame was marked, "Gobelin". The Gobelin tapestry factory was established in mid 1600's in Paris France. Today it is run by the French Ministry of Culture and open for tours. Artist Artz is considered one of the first Dutch Realists and student of Israels. The original painting this tapestry is based on was an oil on canvas and was smaller...not including the whole room. The tapestry has been modified to include more details in the room. The expanded size is quite intriguing and you are drawn into the small circle of women sewing by the light of the window in this Flemish room setting. The colors are in browns, blues and red. The edges of the tapestry are machine sewn. I have included a photograph of the backside after pulling away the cardboard so you can see some of it. The condition is good as you can see. Let me know if you have questions. I debated to take this tapestry off of the wood frame and remove all the nails and ship in smaller box, but decided to leave it intact on the frame as I got it. The box is going to be really really long but within USPS size to ship. It will weigh 17lbs (68" x 21"x 6" shipping box). There is a wire on the back to hang. It is stretched nicely.
