Goodell Pratt No 722 precision adjustable bench level good vial needs cleaning

Description: You are bidding on one Goodell Pratt Number 722 precision adjustable bench level as pictured.Overall length of the base is about a 32nd under 12". Overall length of the vial tube is about 8-1/4", and diameter of the tube is about 3/4". The glass vial is graduated on the glass on top. Shown is a page from my reprinted 1905 Goodell Pratt catalog, which shows their line of bench levels. The catalog is shown only for illustration of the model number and features, and the catalog IS NOT included in the listing. You are bidding on just the level.The level that is illustrated in the catalog is marked as a Richardson Level made by Goodell Pratt. That makes sense, as Goodell Pratt bought the line of machinist levels from Richardson in 1904. It features the top handle, which also serves as a guard for the vial. The catalog page notes that the larger levels such as this have the handle attached to the base and not to the tube, which "enables the operator to handle the level without the danger of affecting its accuracy by the heat of his hand". The two supports for the handle are brass.The level weighs 2 pounds 15.6 ounces on my postal scale, or just under 3 pounds. It has quite a heft to it.Condition is good other than it would really benefit from a cleaning. The cast iron has some remnants of the original japanning, and has quite a bit of pitting or casting roughness on the bottom. There are some areas of rust on the base and on the hardware, and some dots of paint to clean off of the base. The tube is nickeled, with some of the nickeling worn off as can be seen. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect.SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location.
