Description: Great Old c1750s European Hand Engraved Silver BoxPresented is a wonderful old continental European silver box. This box dates to 1730-1770, and may be Dutch in origin, but we don't know. The box is done in a lovely classical form which dates it to the 18th century. The box is finely hand engraved with elaborate floral and scroll designs, on the lid as well as the underside. The back of the box under the hinge has a monogram of 'HBVM.' The box is in great overall condition. The lid has a stubborn tendency to raise up a little bit on the righthand side, visible in the second photo, but the lid still closes well, especially considering the box is about 250 years old. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The box is hallmarked on the lip of the opening, beneath the thumbpiece, with hallmarks we unfortunately do not recognize. The box has approximate dimensions of 3 1/4 by 2 1/2 by 1 3/8 inches. This piece weighs 92 grams or 3.2 regular ounces. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
