Description: This exquisite hand-carved soapstone figurine depicts an Eskimo hunter with a spear, crafted by the renowned artist Sheam. The piece is a beautiful representation of the Alaskan Aboriginal culture and is a must-have for collectors of collectibles. The figurine was made in the United States and is handmade, making it a unique and valuable addition to any collection. The Siberian Yupik Eskimo tribe is known for its skilled artisans, and this piece is no exception. It is a true masterpiece that captures the essence of the Canadian Aboriginal culture. Both the handcarced hunter and the base are soapstone. The hunter stands 5.75" and the width from hand to hand is 4". The delicate detailed carving of his hair, eyes, beard, and decoration around his neck are truly stunning. I purchased this carving directly from the carver in 1979 while teaching in the native school in Gambell, Saint Lawrence Island, Alaska. The spear is seperate and very delicately carved. The base is a slab of soapstone that roughly measures 4.5" x 4.5" x 6". The base is approximately .75" thick. The edges of the base are unpolished. This hunter is a stunning piece of Native artwork. Total weight of the carving is 2 lb 7oz.
