Description: I have for sale a commemorative medal for Henry Clay. Clay was a lawyer and politician who represented Kentucky in both the U.S. Senate & House of Representatives. He was also U.S. Secretary of State. He ran for president in 1824, 1832 & 1844 and lost all three times. This medal is bronze, it is three inches in diameter and in uncirculated condition, see photos. This medal is listed in the Medals of the U.S. Mint, The first century by R.W. Julian as #PE8. Charles Cushing Wright was the engraver. The obverse shows his raised bust in the center with HENRY CLAY at the top rim. On a scroll at the bottom rim, it reads, BORN APRIL 12, 1777, DIED JUNE 29, 1852. The reverse shows a hand holding a paper and below the hand it reads CONSTITUTION. At the top rim it reads THE ELOQUENT DEFENDER OF NATIONAL RIGHTS - AND NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE. The medal comes with the original case but its in very poor condition, on a scale of 1-10 it's a 2.
