Artist Biography: Genre, portrait painter, mezzotint, aquatint engraver and etcher of original and reproductive plates, with a great reputation in his own lifetime. Brother of R.W.Macbeth (qv). Born at Newbury, Berkshire. Studied in Edinburgh; he moved to London as a portrait painter; changed his name from his devotion to the paintings of Raeburn after whom he often etched. Exhibited at the RA from 1881 to 1904.
