Description: Up for sale is a copy of an ORIGINAL and HISTORIC Civil War Era Newspaper the "New York Herald" dated Wednesday, May 10, 1865. Read first hand what was happening in the US the day after the Official end of the Civil War (May 9, 1865). And about 1 month after the assassination of President Lincoln (April 14, 1865). It is a large 8 page (4 pages front and back) newspaper measuring approximately 16" x 21", which folds out to one big rectangle. The paper covers some important historical news including the following articles "TRIUMPHAL ENTREE OF THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC INTO THE LATE REBEL CAPITAL", and "PRESIDENT JOHNSON ISSUED OFFICIAL ORDER THE RE RESTORATION OVER VIRGINIA". ". It includes news on the stock exchange, some advertisements, business notices, marriage notices, obituaries, city commerce report, military notices, want ads, for sale, professional notices, lists of unclaimed merchandise, and much, much more! The paper is in Fair- condition. There is heavy wear to the paper - there are many creases and tears along the edges. There are a number creases in the middle of the editorials, as well. The over 150 year old paper also suffers from some foxing, staining, browning, spotting and type fading. The crease that holds the two sides together is split, torn, browned and very delicate. There are also several long tears along the edges. This is an incredible chance to read about our countries history on the original day it was reported! A great opportunity for any collector or history buff to own a true piece of American history! Other dings here and there. Please email with questions and see my store for other great items.
