Description: History of the Reign of Ferdinand and Isabella by William H. Prescott In Two Volumes, 1/2 Leather Bound New York: Hovendon Company, n.d. (likely late 1800s). This is a beautiful two-volume set of Prescott’s History of the Reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, half-bound in tan calf over marbled paper boards. The spine is ruled, detailed, and lettered in gilt, with red and green labels. The binding is tight and square and the joints and hinges are strong. Please see photographs. The edges, free endpapers, and pastedowns are marbled. The books are in very good condition but for some shelfwear, edgewear, scuffs and scratches. Please see photos. The green author/volume spine label to the second volume has the slightest peeling starting to the upper left corner. Volume I has two pages very slightly dogeared (less than 1/2” x 1-1/2”, pp. 135-36) and an approximately 2” square scrap of newspaper was laid in with resulting toning to pages 152-53. Toning otherwise is very light and even. This is a strikingly handsome, clean, and well preserved set. It has no bookplates. It will be shipped bubble wrapped and boxed.
