Description: Hungarian skirt & apron from region of Kalotaszeg in Transylvania (Romania). Skirt of pumpkin-color floral wool challis, with permanent pleats. Rows of pleated embroidered ribbon at hem. Hem backed with floral cotton for weight and fluidity. Narrow embroidered ribbon accent just below waistline. Skirt wraps around the back with open front. Skirt always worn with petticoat & apron which covers open front. Sides of skirt feature contrasting unpleated panels,with patch pocket. Same fabric on underside of hem. These panels not visible under the apron, so cheaper material & production saved work & money. Apron of deep blue floral wool challis, permanently pleated. 2 panels of wide embroidered blue ribbon waist to hem, bordered by gold beaded trim. Ribbon & trim also run horizontally at waist. Wide red embroidered ribbon down each side. Red ribbon runs across bottom hem, forming square on each side with center rosette, with round gold beads. Tie closure.
