Description: This antique Imari serving plate dates back to 1850-1899. The plate features a beautiful design of leaves and berries in vibrant colors - blue, red, green & w bright gold accents. It would make a beautiful addition to any Imari collection or as a decorative piece in a home or office. Our family lived in Japan and Taiwan from 1958 to 1964. My father was LtCmdr w the US Navy. His job there was to help develop the Taiwanese Mine Squadron. This beautiful plate was given to my mother as a going away gift when we left in 1964. I am not positive if it's Japanese or Chinese Imari. I remember being told as a child that the plate was over 100 years old. Oh & "Look but don't touch!"It has been kept in one of Mom's china cabinets since then. **Please view photos carefully as they are part of the description. I'm definitely not the best photographer, but I'm happy to send more &/or answer any questions. This beautiful piece is over 100 years old. Although it may have a bit of gold wear along the top & a couple berries, there are no chips, cracks or crazing. There are a couple tiny pits on front & back. They don't affect design. "Glaze contractions are small spots where a hole or recess appears on the glaze surface of the porcelain. One of the main causes is some oily or combustible substance sticking to the clay surface before the glaze was applied. The glaze covers that substance but not the body itself. With the high firing temperature of the kiln the adhering matter evaporates as it has a low evaporation combustion point." Antique-porcelain.com I do not clean or polish any items other than a light dusting.
