Description: A timely rendering of two nurses seeking respite on healing hospital grounds during WWI. This gouache is signed Ernest Procter, and dated either 1918 or 1919, difficult to determine. There is illegible writing on the lower right side of the painting in the margin. Ernest Procter ( British, 1885-1935) was born into a Quaker family, and served with the Friends Ambulance Unit at Dunkirk from April 1916 -Feb 1919. There is much information on the internet about this artist and his famous artist wife if you are interested. Although this piece is signed Ernest Proctor, it went though auction with Roseberys in 2008 as " In the Manner of Ernest Procter". 14 7/8 × 14 1/4 in frame.
