Description: INDY 500 HURST FLOOR SHIFT year 1964 , 1/32 scale in resin for slot or static. Composed of body, dummy engine, exhaust, pilot, safety arch, bumper, windshield and decal sheetIn the 1960s, the Indianapolis 500 was abuzz with the new and unusual. This is the decade when the front-engined roadster gave way to the mid-engined race car. As time went by, the cars sprouted wings and engine choices ranged from overhead valve V-8s and stock block to aircraft turbines. One of the strangest cars to compete in the Indy 500 was the Hurst Floor Shifter Special, from the fertile, rules-defying imagination of Smokey Yunick. Resembling a torpedo with a sidecar, Yunick's bizarre machine was one of the first to pay close attention to the frontal area of the car and its aerodynamic effects. It was powered by the Offenhauser DOHC inline-four, which rode in the center fuselage, while the driver was hanging in his own separate pod on the left side of the car. Safety obviously wasn't a big concern, and driver Bobby Johns ended up turning the car upside down on the last day of qualifying for the 1964 race. It was never seen at the Speedway again.Always remember that you are buying absolutely handcrafted production, in modeling and rendering, with their possible shortcomings. Small defects in the body can include air bubbles or micropores. They are easily repairable with putty and a little dedication, before applying the paint.
